Ice hockey is fast paced sport. Brendan Shanahan, who played in NHL, once said:” We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us, oh yeah did I mention that this whole time we’re standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick”.

- You are goalie coach. What are the skills that are required to become a goaltender?
Tero Taskila explained that there are several methods and technique that one should consider becoming a goaltender. One need to be physical fit and healthy. They require the lot of physical stamina, strength, and endurance, to be able to operate with thirty pounds of goaltender pieces of equipment. Goalies need to wear that equipment for the 60 minute play, which can, with stops last 2 hours. The real stamina is required when they need to move with this equipment. The other quality that one should inculcate in its habit is the leadership ability, skills of quarterbacking and work ethic. Goalies need to handle the whole game with full concentration and focus. The goalie must be an agile skater in the team. He needs good control on the body, to make a quick balance with skates. In hockey goalie need not to work fast, but they need to perform quickly. With the quick movement, they need to adopt lateral and backward movement.
